State Bar Board Supports Proposal for One, 16-Year Term for Supreme Court Justices

Sept. 28, 2013 – The State Bar of Wisconsin’s Board of Governors voted today (37-4) to support a proposal that would limit the terms of Wisconsin Supreme Court justices to one, 16-year term, a plan advanced by the State Bar’s Judicial Task Force.

One of the first things the panel tasked with finding a way to fix judicial elections in Wisconsin had to consider, said Wausau attorney Christine Bremer Muggli, who was a member of the panel through its 18-month process, was that Wisconsinites value our ability to vote for judges.

Two-Vehicle Accident In Wausau

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday that has caused a power-outage to hundreds of people in Wausau.  A vehicle rear-ended a car near the intersection of Bridge Street and 11th Avenue.  The first vehicle continued down the road, and slammed into a telephone pole at Bridge Street and 10th Avenue.   Three people were taken to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.

State Bar Board Approves Budget, Hears Judicial Task Force Proposal

June 12, 2013 – State Bar of Wisconsin dues remain unchanged for fiscal year 2014, under the proposed budget approved by the State Bar’s Board of Governors today.

The 52-member board, which convened in Middleton, also heard a report from the State Bar’s Judicial Task Force, which is recommending that the terms of Wisconsin Supreme Court justices be limited to one, 16-year term through a constitutional amendment.

Two Killed In Elderon Accident

Nichole Merckes, of Bowler, and Lillian Long Tail, of Eland, died in a crash with a semi-truck Thursday at the intersection of state Highway 49 and Elm Road. It has been reported Ms. Merckes failed to stop at a stop a sign and investigators are trying to determine whether she tried to stop and couldn’t because of speed and slippery conditions. Neither woman was wearing a seat belt.

Nekoosa Woman Injured In Semi Accident

Kathleen M. Esser, from Nekoosa, was injured when the car she was in collided with a semitrailer in the town of Port Edwards. On Friday, a car driven by Wayne H. Esser and a semitrailer driven by Gordon L. Varsho and owned by Triumph Transportation of Milwaukee collided on Highway 54 near Port Road, when Varsho was backing his semi across an oncoming lane of traffic into the parking lot of Trophy Bound Collision.
