If you or a loved one has been injured in a serious accident like the one discussed above, it is important to involve an experienced personal injury attorney right away. In some cases, a person who has been injured by a drunk driver can make a claim for “punitive damages” against that driver’s insurance company. These damages are separate from your medical expenses, wage loss and compensation for your pain and suffering: they are meant to punish the intoxicated driver. While you focus on recovering your injuries, a law firm with experience handling car accidents can investigate the crash, determine if you have a claim for punitive damages, handle all contact with insurance carriers involved and make sure your medical expenses are handled properly.
