Labor Day Crash Kills One, Injures One and Closes Highway

On Monday, September 1, one person was killed and another was injured in a crash between an ATV and two cars.  According to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, an ATV driver was headed north on Cardinal Lane in the town of Cassel when he started to cross Highway 29 in order to continue onto 9th Avenue in the town of Rib Falls.  While crossing, he collided with two cars traveling west on Highway 29.  The driver of the ATV was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of one car was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Wausau Hospital to be treated for injuries.  Highway 29 was closed and traffic was rerouted while the accident was investigated.  The police investigation continues.
