Shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Friday, a 1997 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on County Line Road in the Town of Roosevelt when the driver lost control attempting to turn north onto 11th Avenue. The SUV slid into a ditch, crashed into a utility pole and then overturned. Front seat passenger Gary L. Palms of Milwaukee was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Laverne W. Palms of Milwaukee, was airlifted from the scene with serious injuries. Back seat passenger Kenneth D. Palms of Milwaukee was transported to Stanley Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Investigation into the crash is ongoing, but slippery road conditions, speed and alcohol are suspected to be factors in causing the accident.
